Environmental education
Environmental education is an elementary component of the Britzer Garten. In the Karl Foerster Pavilion and in the park areas, Grün Berlin's Campus Stadt Natur and the Freilandlabor Britz e. V. association offer various environmental education events for all age groups. Children, families and adults can get to know the diverse nature of the park together in an exploratory, playful and creative way. Depending on the time of year, the programme focuses on different themes.
Environmental education by Campus Stadt Natur
Experience nature, join in the research and discover new perspectives - Campus Stadt Natur invites you to do just that at numerous green locations in the city. With themed workshops, guided tours, further education, exhibitions and a wide range of activities for children and adults, Campus Stadt Natur raises awareness of the environment and nature, sustainability and climate protection.
In the Britzer Garten, the topics of water and earth building take centre stage: for example, life in and around water is explored with the explorer raft, and daycare groups and school classes can take part in the ‘Shoes off, healthy through the water’ course. The clay building village also offers creative ways of learning about the natural material clay.
Environmental education by Freilandlabor Britz
Freilandlabor Britz e. V. offers training, workshops and courses on various environmental topics as well as nature and environmental tours for all age groups in Britzer Garten. This involves discovering the special features of the park together and at the same time learning about the needs and characteristics of the nature that surrounds us. Depending on the season, different focal points are set.
Environmental education centre
In October 2024, the environmental education centre, which was only built in 2018, was completely destroyed by fire. The state-owned Grün Berlin is currently coordinating the settlement of the damage and is examining the options for reconstruction. At the moment, no further details can be given regarding the time frame or final financing of a possible reconstruction.
In order to continue the environmental education work in Britzer Garten by Campus Stadt Natur, Grün Berlin's environmental education programme, and Freilandlabor Britz, the Karl Foerster Pavilion has been used as an alternative location since February 2025.
